Our Community

The Covington Food Bank serves the tri-parish area of St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington. An average of 20% of the people who reside in these parishes live in poverty. These are the people whose lives we touch, one box of food at a time.

Thankfully our community also has many people who are committed to serving those in need. It is only through their dedication, volunteer hours and donations that we are able to continue to serve the rising number of needy families in our area. For this, we are truly grateful.

Our Challenges

The Covington Food Bank is operated primarily through the generosity of volunteer hours, donations and a lot of hard work. As the economy continues to flounder, the number of families in need of assistance continues to grow. As these numbers grow, so do the challenges we must overcome in order to continue to provide for these families.

Because of the growing demand for food and the increasing costs of meeting that demand, our budget for food purchases is continually growing.In 2011, The Covington Food Bank distributed over 900,000 pounds of food.

Our Hope

The Covington Food Bank’s greatest hope is to eliminate hunger through food distributions, continue to be able to provide monetary assistance for those who find themselves in financial difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances, and to help educate those recipients in an effort to improve their position in our ever changing society.

Our hope is to create an environment of love and spiritual guidance where we are not only giving a “hand out” but a “leg up” to those in our community who truly desire much better than they have received thus far.
